Ashley & Alexis Tie The Knot – Sierra Ranch – Mooi River – 20th April 2013
Alexis and Ashley both returned to South Africa from their overseas teaching positions to tie the knot with close family and friends. Ashley a South African and Alexis an American brought together two families from opposite sides of the world in a fun, relaxed, creative and quirky ‘ranch-style’ wedding. We assisted with the planning of their wedding whilst they were still overseas and helped with decor, styling and set-up. Although the heavy rain (peculiar for April!) poured down on all who attended – we made alternative arrangements and lit the winter fires and with chimneys smoking we managed to create a warm and cosy wedding filled with lots of love and lots of laughter.
The wedding was held at Sierra Ranch in Mooi River which is recently under new management. The new team were really attentive, helpful and committed to ensuring this wedding was one of a kind. Sue who did the flowers – was of course phenomenal with her gorgeous pastel country bunches tied and arranged loosely. Alexis brief and chosen colour palette was pastel colours (pink, lavender, cream & peach) with an hint of burlap and lace and lots of ribbons. With an informal farm-style wedding she wanted lots of quirky elements and a mix-and-match of centerpieces and interesting and fun vintage decor pieces.
We had really hoped for a stop in the rain but it continued to drizzle all day so we opted for the ceremony in the lounge area. We hung the ribbon canopy to cover the back wall and set-up the white wimbledon chairs in front. With lanterns to light the aisle and hanging flowers in tiny bottles with ribbon. With two hay bales to frame the ceremony and an abundance of flowers in different vases, tins and buckets.
We just love the old window frame used to display the seating plan (NEW to our collection!) and of course no farm wedding would be complete without lots of shiny red apples in old farm crates.
With the cold weather forecast seen ahead earlier in the week we ditched the ice-cold drinks bath and replaced it with a hot chocolate stand with mason jars tied with lace and guests could add their own marshmellows, 100’s & 1000’s, chocolate sprinkles and whipped cream to their hot drinks. This was accompanied by a yummy and refreshing Pimm’s Punch done by the mother of the groom.
Within the interior of the reception we used lots of fairy lights to create a romantic, whimsical and warm feel and used the venue’s copper coloured chairs but hung ribbons on the backs of each one. Burlap and lace table runners down the centre of each table with a collection of mix-matched bottles, vases and containers with gorgeous florals. We just adore the new matching burlap and lace cutlery holders – so cute! Our lace covered votives created golden light and we used our cream table numbers to clearly number each table plus a little stack of books for interest.
We also love the personalised Bride and Groom sign we made for the back of their chairs – so gorgeous!
Externally we made use of the narrow covered patio and tried to re-create the garden-type chill area where guests could relax, enjoy canapes or use as a smoking section. With hanging material hearts and hay bales with drink tins and enamel tea pots with flowers – we hoped to create a warm shelter from the rain.
Overall it turned out to be a gorgeous country farm-style wedding filled with love, laughter and joy and lots of gorgeous details and flowers! Wishing Alexis and Ashley lots of love and luck and they begin their lives together xoxoxo
