We were really happy to event co-ordinate and assist with a big birthday bash for Trevor who celebrated with his wife Margie and all his family and friends. Trevor chose the beautiful Market restaurant in Marriot Road Durban as the place to celebrate his 60th birthday dinner. We just love Market – with it’s beautiful pebbled courtyard and tall birch trees surrounding the fountain. As a venue it is naturally beautiful with simplistic and trendy furnishings plus excellent food and a great wine list. The staff really do make all the difference by creating a comfortable atmosphere with the friendliness, efficiency and care.
Decorating a great venue is always fun and we decided to go with the theme ‘a touch of vintage’. This meant there were subtle hints of vintage decor but never too much. Keeping things fresh, clean and slightly masculine we went for black and white as the main colour scheme. The table runners were done in a variety of black and white prints – vintage damask, stripes and polka dots. Each table had a collection of floral arrangements – one in a vintage white jug, a small preserve jar and a pewter rose bowl each with ribbon ties clustered together. Each table had a black or white vintage styled framed black and white photo of Trevor and his wife Margie throughout the journey of their lives together.
A collection of vintage decor was displayed at the entrance with an old grey typewriter, vinyl records, books, a projector, a small world globe and coca-cola’s in old wooden crates. A few birdcages were used throughout the venue and mason jars with white and black lace covers hung from the trees to create a whimsical atmosphere with burning tea lights.
As the night progressed, the Gods smiled on us as the weather stayed clear and warm. Twinkling fairy lights and subdued candle light moved everyone gently into the night and saw some great artists each performing their incredible sounds such as Nibbs Van Der Spuy, Guy Buttery, Karin Van Pletsen and the Graeme Watkins Project. It was a magical evening spent with very special people – friends and family at a fabulous birthday event!
